Introduction: A hight quality of sleep is essential for the physical and mental health of the human being. However, there are many types of sleep disorders and, among them, Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) has a higher prevalence. OSAS can be investigated and treated by a dental-surgeon (DS), alongside with a multi-professional team, yet, there are still many doubts regarding a care protocol. Objective: The aim of this study was to present a dental care protocol for patients with OSAS. Methods: The protocol was developed from the review of 12 scientific articles, after a comprehensive search on the subject. The search was carried out from January 2016 to March 2018 in the PubMed (including MedLine), Lilacs, SciELO and Google Scholar databases. Results: The protocol was divided into six segments: 1. Attention (behavioral evaluation); 2. Anamnesis; 3. Application of questionnaires; 4. Physical examination; 5. Diagnosis; 6. Treatment. These were developed according to what was observed of most relevant in the scientific literature for the dental environment. The importance of the correct diagnosis of OSAS by DS is highlighted. Conclusion: Therefore, the elaboration of this protocol assists the DS in the selection and evaluation of possible risk factors and etiological factors of OSAS, screening patients with greater propensity for the development of the syndrome.
